Filter of Christ

Recently I have found myself talking to middle school girls, young singles and new moms encouraging them to see themselves as God sees them - beautiful and worthy! And then just today, in God's awesome timing I got an email from Thrive Moms on just this subject and wanted to share it....

We see the world through a variety of filters. If you scroll through your instagram feed, you see hundreds of beautiful images carefully edited, brightened and filtered. Blemishes can be covered and corrected. The messy parts behind you can be blurred out and unseen.

Don't you wish you could wake up and chose a filter to put on yourself of how you will be seen? Maybe you're a bit tired so you'll go black and white. Or you can pick something that brightens your eyes and brings out your skin tone. The way we view ourselves is quite different than all those people liking your latest selfie.

Let's do an excersise together. I want you to grab a piece of paper and go to the mirror.

What is the first word or phrase that comes to your mind when you look at yourself?
What is that nagging lie you believe each time you look at who you are as a mom?
I want you to write that on your paper.

Now comes the fun part: put a big mark through it!

Ask God how He sees you. What are the truths he speaks over you and into your heart? Below the lie you wrote, I want you to write a truth about who God says that you are. He sees you through the filter of Christ. You are covered by the blood and redeemed. You are not that lie that you crossed out. That lie is nailed to the cross. You are His.

Isn't that a beautiful message and image!? I tell my 7/8th grade girls all the time to look at themselves through God's goggles! Just this weekend at our middle school retreat (more on that on another post) we talked about how God made us ON PURPOSE! And how of all creation that God made, He created US (and ONLY us) in HIS IMAGE! How beautiful is that!? And how loved we should feel!

So... Let's do it ladies.... How does God see you?
